JUNE BOOK OF THE MONTH: SONG IN A WEARY THROAT

Happy Pride Month! 🏳️‍🌈The Black & Project is reading Pauli Murray’s autobiography, Song in a Weary Throat.

Pauli Murray was a brilliant legal mind, a trailblazing civil rights and women’s rights activist, and a queer woman of the trans experience who became the first ordained Black American woman Episcopal priest.

Murray drafted the legal argument against segregation and laid the groundwork for Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s work on protections against sex discrimination under the 14th amendment but her book reads like a collection of powerful stories told by a beloved grandparent. She is an unsung hero across many movements for equality. This month especially, The Black & Project recognizes Pauli Murray as an inspirational LGBTQ figure.
