ABOUT THE PROJECT
ABOUT
The first seeds of the Black & Project took root in 2017 when I was studying sociology at Howard University. I was intrigued by the theoretical concepts of double consciousness and intersectionality, and felt incredibly fortunate to be in community with a Black campus where people were balancing and honoring their Blackness other identities so beautifully. There was so much diversity and unity in the Blackness of my HBCU experience. I got the idea to turn casual conversations had with peers about how identity and culture have shaped their creative/justice work into a sort of living archive that now exists as The Black & Project.
